Dandruff occurs when the skin cells of the scalp flake off. This flaking is natural and occurs all over your body. On the scalp, however, flakes can mix with oil and dust to form dandruff. Dandruff cannot be cured, but it can be controlled.
Home Treatment
Try frequent and energetic shampooing with any shampoo. Wash hair daily if it controls dandruff.
If the dandruff is excessive and itchy, try a dandruff shampoo (Head & Shoulders, Sebulex, Tegrin) three times a week alternating with your regular shampoo. Experiment to find the one that works best for you.
When to Call a Health
Professional
If frequent shampooing, or shampooing with a dandruff shampoo, doesn't control dandruff. Your doctor may prescribe a stronger dandruff shampoo.
